MIDI file does not play due to corrupt or outdated MIDI.INF.
Cause:
The MIDI.INF file is corrupt or outdated.
Solution:
Extract the MIDI.INF file from the Windows 95 disk or CD-ROM.
1) Delete the corrupt or outdated 'MIDI.INF' file:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'Windows Explorer'. (The 'Windows Explorer' window appears.)
c) In the 'All Folders' list box, double-click WINDOWS and INF.
d) In the 'Contents of inf' list box, select 'midi.inf'.
e) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Delete'.
f) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to exit the 'Windows Explorer' window.
2) Do one of the following:
a) Extract the 'MIDI.INF' file from the Windows 95 CD-ROM:
1] Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2] Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
3] Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS Prompt' window appears.)
4] Type the following at the DOS prompt:
EXTRACT <x>:\WIN95\PRECOPY2.CAB MIDI.INF /L C:\WINDOWS\INF
(where <x> is the letter associated with the CD-ROM drive).
NOTE: If the above command does not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
5] Press ENTER. (The 'MIDI.INF' file is extracted.)
6] Type EXIT to close the 'MS-DOS Prompt' window.
b) Extract the 'MIDI.INF' file from the Windows 95 diskette:
1] Insert Disk 2 into the floppy drive.
2] Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
3] Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS Prompt' window appears.)
4] Type the following at the DOS prompt:
EXTRACT <x>:\PRECOPY2.CAB MIDI.INF /L C:\WINDOWS\INF
(where <x> is the letter associated with the floppy drive).
NOTE: If the above command does not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
5] Press ENTER. (The 'MIDI.INF' file is extracted.)
6] Type EXIT to close the 'MS-DOS Prompt' window.
